Filing Court Papers Electronically
How e-filing works and what self-represented filers should know.
How it works
Many courts accept or require electronic filing through an online portal. You create an account, upload PDFs, pay fees or request a waiver, and receive confirmation. Some courts still let self-represented people file on paper at the clerk's office.
Tips
- Save documents as text-searchable PDFs.
- Keep the filing confirmation.
- Check whether filing also serves the other side, or if you must serve separately.
