Getting Started
Finding Free Legal Help
Legal aid, law school clinics, court self-help centers and more.
Where to look
- Legal aid organizations — free civil help for people under income limits. Find them through LawHelp.org or the Legal Services Corporation.
- Court self-help centers — staff explain procedures and forms, but don't give legal advice.
- Law school clinics — supervised students take real cases.
- Bar association referral services — often a low-cost first consultation.
- Free legal answers sites — the ABA runs one for civil questions in many states.
