Most cases settle
The large majority of civil cases end without a trial. Settlement can happen any time, even on the courthouse steps.
Before agreeing
- Know what you'd likely get if you won, and the risk of losing.
- Consider time, cost, and stress.
Get it in writing
A settlement should state who pays what, by when, what happens if they don't pay, and that the case will be dismissed. Ask whether it can be entered as a court judgment so it's enforceable.
